      INTRODUCTION TO THE BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS PROGRAMME

      The Bachelor of Economics programme is designed to provide solid grounding in theory and economic knowledge and improve the critical and analytical skills of students. The core and elective courses are shaped to produce graduates with broad based as well as specialized knowledge. Since 2015, the newly introduced specialization system has provided students the option to specialize in one of four (4) areas, namely;

    • A total of 126 credits are required to complete the Bachelor of Economics programme as follows;

      c. Elective Courses (Specialization)

      It is compulsory for students to specialize in one of four areas as below:

      1. 1. Economics
      2. 2. Administrative Studies and Politics
      3. 3. Development Studies
      4. 4. Applied Statistics

      A student will graduate with a specialization after he/she has completed the programme requirements and fulfils a minimum of 9 courses (27 credits) from a particular specialization.

    • The academic programme follows the semester system and commences in September (Semester I) and February (Semester II). The minimum period of study is 7 semesters and the maximum period of study is 11 semesters.

    • Malaysian Candidates

      Fulfill the University’s general requirements as well as the programme specific requirements in order to be admitted to the programme. Potential candidates must possess or complete any of the following:

      1. • STPM qualification or its equivalent with CGPA 3.30 and above; or
      2. • Diploma in economics and administration and other related fields with CGPA 3.30 and above from any institution recognized by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate; or
      3. • Matriculation, Foundation or Malaysian Sports School Pre-University Certificate with CGPA 3.30 and above; or
      4. • A-Level, IB, AUSMAT; and
      5. • Obtained at least Grade B+ in SPM Level in Mathematics; and
      6. • Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

      Non-Malaysian Candidates

      A non-citizen applicant who obtained his degree from a university or institution of higher learning which does not use English Language as the medium of instruction for the relevant degree who wishes to follow a degree programme of study and/or write his dissertation in the English Language shall fulfil the English Language competency requirement determined by the University as in the paragraphs below.

      1. • a minimum score of 550 for paper-based total (PBT), a score of 213 for the computer-based total (CBT) or a score of 80 for the internet-based total (IBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL);
      2. • a minimum score of band 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic);
      3. • score according to the respective standard programmes if it is higher than (i) and (ii).
      4. • for any standard programme which states that the TOEFL or IELTS (Academic) score is lower than the minimum score of the University, these programmes should follow the minimum score set by the University;
      5. • Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 42;
      6. • minimum Grade C for the English Language subject General Certificate of Education (A-Level);
      7. • minimum Grade C for the Cambridge English: First (FCE);
      8. • minimum Grade C for Cambridge English: Advance (CAE);
      9. • minimum Grade C for Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE); or
      10. • minimum band 4 Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
    • Malaysian Candidates

      Fulfill the University’s general requirements as well as the programme specific requirements in order to be admitted to the programme. Potential candidates must possess or complete any of the following:

      1. • UPU Channel: Applications must be applied via online at http://upu.moe.gov.my ; or
