The MRT3 Circle Line Expansion is set to connect through UM
The proposed expansion of the MRT3 Circle Line [1], which is set to connect Universiti Malaya (UM) and revolutionize transportation within the Klang Valley. Once completed, this ambitious project will form the loop line of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System, offering enhanced connectivity and convenience for commuters.
The MRT3 Circle Line, also known as MRT Line 3, is the thirteenth rail transit line planned for the Klang Valley. As the fourth fully automated and driverless rail system, it aims to provide efficient and sustainable transportation for residents, students, faculty members, and visitors alike.
Under the supervision of Tuan Haji Mohd Yusof Kasiron [2], the director of this project, the MRT3 Circle Line will span approximately 50.8 km and include a total of 31 stations. These stations will consist of 24 elevated and 7 underground stations, strategically located to serve densely populated areas such as Mont Kiara, Segambut, KL Metropolis, Titiwangsa, Setapak, Setiawangsa, Ampang, Salak South, Pandan Indah, Pantai Dalam, Cheras, and of course, Universiti Malaya.
The proposed expansion of the MRT3 Circle Line will not only enhance accessibility for the UM community but also create seamless connections between radial rail lines, circumventing Kuala Lumpur's central business district. This development will greatly benefit commuters by reducing travel time and improving connectivity throughout the Klang Valley.
After being temporarily shelved in 2018, the MRT3 Circle Line project was revived in November 2020, with construction expected to commence in early 2023. The project's completion is slated for 2030, with operations for the first phase scheduled to begin in 2028. Despite having approved the Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) project, the government claims it has not yet decided whether to move on with construction of the RM50.2 billion Circle Line [3].
The expansion of the MRT3 Circle Line will have a profound effect on the UM community and beyond. As this transformative endeavour progresses, additional updates and announcements will be made.
Together, let's embrace the future of efficient, sustainable, and interconnected transportation with the proposed MRT3 Circle Line expansion, which will make Universiti Malaya a more accessible and well-connected node within the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System.
