Introduction
Hong Lou Meng Research Centre, University of Malaya (HLMRCUM) was established on 15 December 2018. It is located in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and is attached to the Department of Chinese Studies office.
Objectives
(1) To enhance interest and level of UM researchers in classical literature.
(2) To broaden the dissemination of translated famous classical works into the Malay language world.
(3) To establish a platform for international exchange, strengthen the exchange of redology globally, and promote the dissemination of redology culture in Southeast Asia.
Research Areas
Classical Chinese literature, in particular, classical novels such as Hong Lou Meng, Journey to the West, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Researches: Dissemination of classical literature in Malaysia and Singapore, cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia-Singapore, and the study of translation studies in classical literature.
The Founder
Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy is the Honorary President of the Alumni Association of the Department of Chinese Studies of Universiti Malaya (Pejati) and Adjunct Professor of the department.
The Collection
The existing collection is made up of about 3000 books, mainly donated by Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, Associate Professor Dr. Obaidellah Mohamad, Associate Professor Dr. Fan Pik Wah and Pejati's Director Mdm. Soh Wei Nee.
