Ching Fei Ern received her BA (Hons.) in 2010, majoring in Geography with a minor in Environmental Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya. In 2011, she went on to pursue a Master’s degree s under the Geography Department. Her research interests cover many areas of tourism geography. She currently assists Dr. Goh Hong Ching in conducting research for a project entitled “Chinese cemeteries and land scarcity in Kuala Lumpur: The crossroad of culture and economic values in development”.

Hui Chuan graduated from Peking University with a B.A. degree in History in 2013. She joined the Malaysian Chinese Research Centre in September 2013 as a Research Assistant. Her final year thesis examined the role of the Kuomintang Central Women's Bureau in women movements during China's National Revolution Period. With the party's support, the women's section experienced exponential growth within a short period, drawing women from all walks of life. However, its overall impact was limited as it was subordinated by the national party. Hui Chuan's current research interests include the contemporary history of China, women movements and Chinese cemeteries.

Deng Jiayu graduated from South China University of Technology, China. Now she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya. Her academic research lies in the field of Management of "Kuala Lumpur Hokkien Cemetery" in Malaysia. Her research interest cover is history of kuala Lumpur, history of overseas Chinese, views of life – death in Chinese society and so on. Meanwhile, she is currently employed as a Research Assistant at the Malaysian Chinese Research Centre, University of Malaya.

Ding Sing Jek received her Bachelor's degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Malaya in 2009. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree at Universiti Putra Malaysia while working as a research assistant in University of Malaya. Her research interests cover is classical Chinese fiction and modern Chinese fiction.

Goh Kai Xin obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language from University of Malaya (UM) and her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching Methodology from Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). Currently, she is working as a Research Assistant at the Malaysian Chinese Research Centre. She also lectures part-time at the Department of Malaysian Languages and Applied Linguistics.

Lai Chin Ting obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Sally Liew was born on April 1989 and hails from Taiping, Perak. She developed a passion for education at a young age and has had experience in teaching at preschool, primary and secondary levels. While at college, she played an active role in the Debate Society. Currently, she is doing her post-graduate Master’s program at the University of Malaya while working as a Research Assistant to the Malaysian Chinese Research Centre. Her research focuses on the Comparison of Mahua Literature with that of Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.

Su Lin graduated from the University of Cambridge with a B.A. degree in History in 2013. She joined the Malaysian Chinese Research Centre in September 2013 as a Research Assistant under the H.I.R. project on the Evolving Identity of the Chinese in Malaysia. She finds imperial and colonial histories fascinating, particularly the study of cultural exchanges between invading powers and the indigenous community. She is intrigued by how these processes, beyond a superficial ‘ordaining’ of knowledge, were instead often subtle and reciprocal, involving binary negotiations between the ruling power and the ruled.

As a teenager, Ooi Soh Chen developed a fascination for sinology, and would eventually follow up on this interest in the form of a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Studies at University of Malaya. After graduating in 2010 and working for 3 years, her passion for the subject has not waned. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree while working as a Research Assistant at the Malaysian Chinese Research Centre. Her research focuses on the religious concerns of Mahua writers.

Soon Chiow Thai obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Linguistics, majoing in Mandarin. She subsequently received a Master’s degree in 2003. Linguistics and is currently pursuing her PhD in the field of Sociolinguistics at the University of Malaya. She previously taught Mandarin at primary and secondary school level, and now attached to a local university as a lecturer.

Tan Miau Ing obtained her Bachelor and Master’s degree in Economics from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). She has worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS) and as a research executive at the Star Publications. She is in the midst of completing a PhD thesis on the life of Lee Hau Shik (H.S. Lee) between the years of 1901 and 1988. Her current research interests includes the study of the overseas Chinese and economic history.

A fresh Master’s graduate form the Department of Chinese Studies, University of Malaya, Tan Yen Yee’s research interests lie in the field of Malaysian Chinese politics. She currently works as a Research Assistant in UM, and hopes to further her academic pursuits in the form of a PhD. Her thesis research will explore the bi-party system and the development of democracy in Malaysia, with a specific focus on Malaysian Chinese.
