MASTER OF PERFORMING ARTS (MUSIC)

The Master of Performing Arts (Music) programme is crafted to enhance and cultivate your existing musical expertise and aptitude. This postgraduate curriculum entails the successful completion of three fundamental courses encompassing performance practice, musicology, and research methodology. You will also have the opportunity to select an elective course that enables you to delve deeper into a specific area of interest, such as music education, ethnomusicology, music technology, performance studies, composition, or music theory. 

Our program is held in high esteem among music professionals engaged in school-based music education, independent studio music education, and community music education. By undertaking this program, students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and proficiencies to make significant contributions within the music industry across various educational, performance, and music productionoriented contexts.

Note

  • Candidates are required to pass at least ‘B’ for each Core Courses. 
  • Candidates are required to complete the coursework component (Part I) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 prior to registering for the research component (Part II).
  • Candidates are required to determine their research area and select a supervisor prior to embarking on the dissertation. The nomination of supervisor(s) shall be done by filling in the appropriate form at the Postgraduate Office.

General Requirements:

Possessed a Bachelor Degree of Music / Bachelor Degree of Performing Arts with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.


OR


Possessed a Bachelor's Degree with CGPA of 2.50 - 2.99 and meet at least one (1) of the

following criteria:


1) UM graduate; or

2) At least one (1) year working experience in a related field; or

3) Publication in a related field; or

4) A scholarship holder; or

5) A Government servant; or

6) Pass an interview by PTj; or

7) Pass a Special Assessment by PTj.
