The 2nd Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL) – Singapore Association for Applied Linguistics (SAAL) Symposium 2016 will be held on the 21st of October 2016 at the Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. This event is jointly organized by the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL), the University of Malaya and the Singapore Association for Applied Linguistics (SAAL). The symposium aims to provide a means for academics and professionals working in applied linguistics to establish and maintain contact with one another and with recent developments in the field of applied linguistics.
The theme of this symposium is "Applied Linguistics as a 21st Century Discipline: Implications for Pedagogy and Professional Communication". The event will feature Professor Vijay Bhatia, President of the Asia-Pacific LSP and Professional Communication Association as the keynote speaker and a welcoming speech by Professor Dr. Azirah Hashim, President of MAAL and Professor Dr. Low Ee Ling, President of SAAL.
Other invited speakers include Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zarina Othman (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anne Pakir (National University of Singapore), Dr. Ang Pei Soo (University of Malaya), Dr. Kenneth Ong Keng Wee (Nanyang Technological University), Dr. Cordelia Mason (Asian Institute of Finance) and Dr. Peter Tan (National University of Singapore). The 2nd MAAL Annual General Meeting will be held after the symposium (for MAAL members only).
