Christian Joppke is Professor of Sociology at the University of Bern. His fields of expertise include the comparative study of immigration and integration policies, as well as religion, citizenship, and multiculturalism. Joppke holds a PhD degree from the University of California at Berkeley, United States. Previous appointments include the University of Southern California, the European University Institute, the University of British Columbia, and International University Bremen. His latest monographs include Is Multiculturalism Dead? Crisis and Persistence in the Constitutional State and The Secular State Under Siege: Religion and Politics in Europe and America. Among others, Prof. Joppke was Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies (NTU Singapore) and Visiting Professor at the Radzyner School of Law (Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya, Israel). He is Honorary Professor in the Department of Political Science at University of Aarhus as well as Visiting Professor in the Nationalism Program of Central European University, Budapest.
